Apple hand pies –
Chef Mommy: Apple Hand Pies
These Apple Hand Pies are not only easy to make but are also a delightful treat that the whole family will love. With a flaky crust and a warm, spiced apple filling, they’re sure to make your taste buds dance! Now, let’s get into what you’ll need to whip these beauties up.

Ingredients:
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 2 cups of apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar. Add the chilled butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Cook for about 5 minutes, or until the apples are slightly softened. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface until about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into circles using a large cookie cutter or a glass.
- Place a tablespoon of the apple mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal with a fork.
- Place the hand pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
These Apple Hand Pies are best enjoyed warm. Serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for that extra oomph. Trust me, everyone will be begging for seconds!
