Baked onion bhajis –Onion bhajis are a delightful snack that can elevate any gathering or simply satisfy a craving at home. They’re crispy, flavorful, and oh-so-satisfying. Today, I want to share with you an easy recipe for making these golden delights.
Easy Onion Bhajis
These onion bhajis are packed with spices and are surprisingly simple to make. The combination of spices and onions creates a unique flavor that is hard to resist.

Ingredients:
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup chickpea flour (besan)
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
- Start by placing the sliced onions in a large mixing bowl. Add the finely chopped green chilies, cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix everything well, allowing the onions to start releasing their moisture.
- Gradually add the chickpea flour to the onion mixture. The quantity may vary, but just enough to coat the onions is necessary. Mix until the onions are well coated.
- It’s time to create a dough-like consistency. Add a few tablespoons of water, mixing until you achieve a consistency that holds together without being too wet.
- In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. You want enough oil to submerge the bhajis for frying.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully drop spoonfuls of the onion mixture into the oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until they turn golden brown and crispy, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the bhajis from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain any excess oil.
- Repeat the frying process until all the mixture is gone. Serve the bhajis hot with mint chutney or your favorite dipping sauce.
These onion bhajis are perfect for a snack or an appetizer, and they’re sure to be a hit at any gathering. Enjoy every crunchy bite!
