Beef and cabbage lazy golumpki –Today, I’m excited to share a delightful recipe for cabbage rolls that have always been a favorite in my kitchen. These delicious and hearty rolls are not only packed with flavor, but they also make for a lovely family meal. Let’s dive right into the step-by-step process of making this comforting dish.

Cabbage Rolls

The beauty of cabbage rolls lies in their versatility. You can stuff them with a variety of fillings, but today I’ll share my go-to recipe that combines ground meat, rice, and aromatic spices.

Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing the cabbage. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the core of the cabbage and place the entire head in the boiling water. Boil for about 2-3 minutes, or until the outer leaves start to soften. Using tongs, gently peel off the softened leaves and set them aside. Return the cabbage to the boiling water as needed until all the leaves are removed.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the chopped onion and garlic until they are translucent and fragrant.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, sautéed onion and garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix until well combined.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. To assemble the rolls, take a cabbage leaf, place about 2 tablespoons of the filling at the base of the leaf, and fold the sides over the filling, rolling it up tightly. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.
  6. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the rolls. If you like a little sweetness, sprinkle some brown sugar over the sauce.
  7. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour, until the rolls are cooked through and the flavors meld beautifully.

Serve these hearty cabbage rolls warm straight from the oven, and enjoy the delightful combination of flavors and textures. They pair wonderfully with a side of crusty bread or a light salad. Happy cooking!
