Braised Flank Steak

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of flank steak
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 2 bay leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Season the flank steak generously with salt and pepper.
  3. In a large Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the flank steak and sear for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove from the pot and set aside.
  4. In the same pot, add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, red wine, and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the pot to release any flavorful bits.
  6. Return the flank steak to the pot and add the thyme and bay leaves. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  7. Cover the pot and transfer it to the preheated oven. Let it braise for about 2 to 2.5 hours, or until the meat is fork-tender.
  8. Once done, remove the pot from the oven and let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with the sauce poured over the top and your favorite sides.
