Halushk
Halushk, often referred to as a comforting staple, is a dish that many enjoy for its satisfying taste and heartwarming properties. Perfect for a family gathering or a cozy dinner at home, this recipe is easy to follow and yields delicious results every time. Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup of water
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- Optional: sour cream for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a small well in the center and crack in the egg, then gradually add the water while mixing with a fork. Stir until the dough forms a ball.
- Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface, until smooth. Cover it with a clean towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- After the dough has rested, roll it out to about 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into desired shapes, usually small squares or strips.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop in the cut dough pieces and cook until they float to the top, usually about 3-5 minutes. Remove them with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- In a skillet, heat the butter over medium heat and add the chopped onion. Sauté until golden brown and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked halushk to the skillet with the onions and gently toss to combine, cooking for another 3 minutes.
- Serve hot, optionally topped with a dollop of sour cream for extra creaminess.
Enjoy this flavorful dish that embodies warmth and comfort in every bite. It’s perfect for sharing with loved ones or for enjoying as a hearty meal any day of the week!
