Ingredients

  • 1 package (16 oz) mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2-3 pounds powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/2 cup Crisco shortening (for greasing)
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the mini marshmallows and water. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 10-second intervals until completely melted and smooth.
  2. Grease your countertop and hands with Crisco. Slowly add the sifted powdered sugar to the melted marshmallow mixture, stirring until the fondant begins to come together.
  3. Once the mixture is too thick to stir, use your hands to knead in the remaining powdered sugar. Knead for about 5-10 minutes until smooth and pliable. If the fondant is sticky, add more powdered sugar as necessary.
  4. If you want to color your fondant, divide it into portions and knead in a few drops of food coloring until the desired shade is achieved.
  5. Wrap the formed fondant tightly in plastic wrap and place it in an airtight container. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes before using. This will allow it to develop the right texture.
  6. When you’re ready to use the fondant, roll it out to your desired thickness and cover your cakes or cupcakes. You can also use cookie cutters to create fun shapes!

With this simple recipe, you can create beautiful, custom fondant designs for any occasion. Have fun decorating and let your creativity shine!
