Our Favourite Apple Pie – Tasty Made Simple
Feast your eyes on this tempting apple pie! Just look at that golden crust and bubbling filling – it’s practically begging to be devoured!

Now that we’ve set the stage with a visual feast, let’s get down to business! Below are the ingredients you’ll need to create this sweet marvel, followed by the steps to make it all happen. So, grab your apron and let’s pie it up!
Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 to 8 apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter, to dot
- 1 egg yolk (for glazing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine 2 ½ cups of flour, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon sugar. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight, if you can resist!).
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit your pie pan.
- In another bowl, peel and slice the apples, then toss them with ¾ cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Use your best interpretation of a mixologist here!
- Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust, and dot with butter. Cover with the top crust, and seal the edges. Cut a few slits in the top for steam to escape, unless you want a pie explosion (we prefer our kitchen without the apple debris).
- Brush the top crust with egg yolk to give it that golden tan. Pop it into the oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes, or until you can’t resist smelling it anymore.
- Allow the pie to cool before slicing (if you can wait that long!) and serve with a scoop of ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Enjoy your delicious masterpiece!
Now you’re all set to impress not just your family but possibly the entire neighborhood with your baking prowess. Let the apple festivities begin!
