Sourdough scones –Today, I’m excited to share a delightful recipe for Sourdough Scones that are not only delicious but also a fantastic way to use up your sourdough starter. These scones are perfect for breakfast or a cozy afternoon snack with a cup of tea. Let’s dive into making these light and fluffy treats!

Sourdough Scones

These scones have a unique flavor thanks to the sourdough, making them much more interesting than traditional ones. They have a slightly tangy taste and a wonderful texture. Serve them warm or at room temperature, and watch them disappear!

Sourdough Scones

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk (or more, as needed)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • Optional add-ins: chocolate chips, nuts, dried fruits, or fresh herbs

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Whisk them together to ensure they are well mixed.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sourdough starter and about half of the milk. Mix until just combined. If the dough feels too dry, gradually add more milk until you achieve a soft yet workable dough.
  5. If you’re adding any optional ingredients like chocolate chips or nuts, fold them in gently at this stage.
  6. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut the dough into triangles or circles, depending on your preference.
  7. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. If you like a golden finish, beat the egg with a splash of water and brush it over the tops of the scones.
  8. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the scones are golden brown. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your freshly baked Sourdough Scones with butter, jam, or simply on their own. They are best enjoyed warm but can also be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days. Make sure to share with friends and family—they won’t last long!
