Galuskies
These delectable cabbage rolls are filled with a mixture of meats and rice, enveloped in tender cabbage leaves, and baked to perfection. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this dish so special!

Ingredients:
To prepare Galuskies, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 jar (about 24 oz) tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 cups sauerkraut (optional)
Instructions:
Follow these easy steps to create your own delicious Galuskies:
- Begin by preparing the cabbage. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core of the cabbage and gently place the whole head into the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes, or until the leaves start to soften. Remove the cabbage from boiling water and let it cool.
- As the cabbage cools, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined.
- Take each softened cabbage leaf and trim the thick vein at the base, making it easier to roll. Place a few tablespoons of the meat mixture at the base of each leaf and roll it tightly, folding the sides in to secure the filling.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large baking dish, spread a bit of tomato sauce at the bottom. Layer the prepared cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. If using sauerkraut, add it on top of the rolls before covering with the remaining tomato sauce. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes to allow the tops to brown slightly.
Once done, allow the Galuskies to cool for a few minutes before serving. These cabbage rolls are amazing on their own or paired with a side of sour cream for dipping. Enjoy every bite of this comforting dish, and savor the delightful flavors that come together with ease!
