Delicious Galuskies

Ingredients:

To prepare Galuskies, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 jar (about 24 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups sauerkraut (optional)

Instructions:

Follow these easy steps to create your own delicious Galuskies:

  1. Begin by preparing the cabbage. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core of the cabbage and gently place the whole head into the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes, or until the leaves start to soften. Remove the cabbage from boiling water and let it cool.
  2. As the cabbage cools, mix together the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined.
  3. Take each softened cabbage leaf and trim the thick vein at the base, making it easier to roll. Place a few tablespoons of the meat mixture at the base of each leaf and roll it tightly, folding the sides in to secure the filling.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large baking dish, spread a bit of tomato sauce at the bottom. Layer the prepared cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. If using sauerkraut, add it on top of the rolls before covering with the remaining tomato sauce. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika.
  5. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes to allow the tops to brown slightly.

Once done, allow the Galuskies to cool for a few minutes before serving. These cabbage rolls are amazing on their own or paired with a side of sour cream for dipping. Enjoy every bite of this comforting dish, and savor the delightful flavors that come together with ease!
